About Danny Begley

Building a Stronger Omaha Together!

BEGO 2_edited.jpg

Danny Begley is a lifelong resident of Omaha, currently living in the Morton Meadows neighborhood of District Three. He was born at Bergan Mercy Hospital and raised in Gifford Park, just across the street from Duchesne Academy. His children—John, Molly, Maddie, and Megan—have all attended local universities in Omaha. In August Danny will be a first time Grandfather! Danny began his career with the Omaha Public Power District in 1990 and has dedicated himself to powering the community ever since.

Danny's commitment to public service was instilled in him by his parents through their example. His father, Dan, worked for the Post Office, delivering mail on foot throughout Blackstone, Gifford Park, and Downtown Omaha. From him, Danny learned to take pride in the community by maintaining neighborhoods and caring for neighbors in need.

His mother, Mary Kay, was the first woman elected to the Metropolitan Utilities District (MUD) Board of Directors, serving for twenty-two years.

Through her service, she taught Danny and his brothers the importance of leadership and how to uplift communities through volunteer efforts. Danny's brother, Jim, honored their mother's legacy by winning election to the same MUD seat in 2012 and being re-elected in 2018 and 2024. This strong sense of responsibility motivated Danny to get involved in local government to better serve the community.

Danny has served on the Papio-Missouri Natural Resources District, where he focused on maintaining and improving the city’s green spaces and recreational areas through sustainable development while working to keep local taxes low. Elected in 2021 to serve District 3, Danny is committed to ensuring that Omaha’s historic core remains an affordable and welcoming community for new families and workers.

He has consistently supported working families across Omaha, serving as the Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1483, and as the Treasurer of the Omaha Federation of Labor.

The Plan

Grow Business

Danny will work to create meaningful partnerships with the Omaha business community.  Danny understands that economic development is a cornerstone of a successful community.  He will ensure that Omaha has a blend of small and large businesses that provide high paying jobs to residents of Omaha.

Good Governance

Danny understands the importance of building strong relationships with county, state, and federal officials to guarantee that Omaha is getting our fair share of resources.  We need to make sure city works and the public health department are getting the funding they need to provide essential services to the people of Omaha.

Protect Working Families

As a lifelong union member, Danny understands the dignity of work and the importance of living wages, health insurance, and proper workforce development.  Danny will work to ensure all workers are being treated fairly, and are properly trained so they can provide the highest quality work on city projects. Danny is committed to building a city that is both durable and sustainable because he knows what it means to work for a paycheck.

Essential City Services

Danny believes that Omaha is one of the best cities in the country for raising a family, thanks to its investment in the community. He is committed to serving the citizens of Omaha by ensuring funding for parks, libraries, transportation networks, and infrastructure, while also being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars.

A Tough Candidate for Tough Issues

Danny has the experience necessary to navigate difficult conversations. In his work for the Omaha Public Power District as a claims representative, Danny was the point of contact for customers and worked to collaborate with other stakeholders to provide the best possible service for Omahans. Danny knows how to partner with Omaha businesses and neighborhoods to build consensus around critical projects and how to balance the needs of the utility and its customers. Danny continues to bring people on opposing sides sensible solutions because that’s what he does every day, and will continue to use those skills to develop solutions for people in Omaha.

Public Safety

Ensuring the safety of our community remains a foremost priority, and I am committed to enhancing the security of our neighborhoods. In the past year, we took meaningful steps to bolster public safety by increasing the budget by an impressive $9.6 million, aimed at attracting and retaining dedicated police officers who serve and protect us. Furthermore, I proudly supported the hiring of 18 new firefighters, raising the total number of brave individuals in our city's firefighting force to 687. By fostering secure and resilient neighborhoods, we not only safeguard our citizens but also strengthen the very fabric of Omaha itself.

Affordable Housing

I am steadfast in my commitment to champion the cause of affordable housing in Omaha, recognizing the pressing need for accessible and reasonably priced living options for all members of our community. To achieve this goal, I will work diligently to propose and support initiatives that not only increase the supply of affordable homes but also implement innovative solutions that address the unique challenges faced in our housing market. This includes collaborating with local developers, policymakers, and community organizations to create sustainable housing projects that prioritize affordability without sacrificing quality. Together, we can create a more just and vibrant city where every individual and family has access to safe, stable, and affordable living environments, ultimately enriching our community as a whole.
